If it's that hard how do thousands of students find university places that way every year?

It’s not hard to get into a course. However it may be hard to get into a uni you want on a course that you want. It’s more luck than difficulty because there is no guarantee as to what will be available.

It depends on what academics you have in hand & what you want to do...
Generally the clearing storing you here are after people have been rejected by their firm & insurance unis so perhaps their ambitions exceed what is realistic & then yes it may be a slightly tougher pill to swallow but it is totally dependent. That said ive seen plenty of clearing success stories.
The process itself isn’t particularly hard (although at the time students naturally feel stressed).

Just be aware that the drop-out rate from Clearing acceptances is high.
Its often a better move to reapply to 5 choices - this gives you more time to think things through, go to Open Days and make a more considered decision about what you are about to spend £65k+ on.

In my opinion, Clearing is a great way to secure an offer to study at university. Yes, the process can be slightly stressful, especially if you go into Clearing after results day. But just because you are in Clearing doesn’t mean that you won’t end up at a university you love.
Just keep in mind that if you have a specific university and course in mind, there is no guarantee that the course will still be available in Clearing, as demand fluctuates. If not then Clearing is a good way for you to have a look at what is available, and assess your options.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Konnie, postgraduate student 😊
