Is this swing dress too summery to wear to an upcoming formal dinner?

The cut is lovely but the pattern, not too sure about polka.
Up to you, there's no dresscode right?

No dress code. What are your reservations about the polkadots?

This is more of a cocktail dress than a formal dinner dress

Thanks. Would you say inappropriate for a formal gala dinner with no dress code set?

They are both fine, but be aware 'formal' often means covering your shoulders (I can't remember the exact rules, but you may be able to google), so take a wrap with either, that you can ditch if everyone else has bare shoulders.

That’s a lovely dress. Have you considered pairing it with a blazer?

This is more appropriate but I would suggest covering up your shoulders

I’m not sure I like the fitting of that.

Polka dots are nice though, I agree!

I like this one, but I think the material looks a little bit plain for a formal event, though you could dress it up with accessories or a smart blazer

Thanks.

It turns out the event is not that formal. It's just a gala dinner.

If I heard the words 'gala dinner' I'd definitely be dressing up, and I bet other people will. Think along the lines of the blue dress, and sensible advice going given on covering shoulders. Don't go too short either, even if it's 'not that fornal'. Nothing higher than on the knee.
