Some ideas (Christianity)
Useful counterpoint for the lords prayer - you can reference that Jesus says directly: "Pray then in this way..." (Matthew 6:9). i.e. as a direct order from (the son of) God that this is how prayer should be done. That can be linked to debates about the bible as the "infallible word" of God, or as "divinely inspired", or as a flawed historical document that has changed over time. You could use Matt 6:9 and Luke 11:2 to hinge your argument about formality of prayer on the issue of the providence of the bible itself.
Bring in some stuff about the protestant schism and the debates surrounding personal communication with God or the need for someone to intercede between the individual and God - referencing Protestantism and Catholicism - and sola scripture vs ritualism.
