Oxford PGCE 2022/23

Hello!
I’ve been accepted to study my PGCE in French with German starting this September and I’m really looking forward to it! Just posting to see if there’s any others also starting the PGCE at Oxford in any subject.
Thank you! X

Which college did you apply for?

Lovely! I applied for St Stephen’s House, I’m in my late 20s and it seems a bit more peaceful. How about you? Great to virtually meet you!

That’s so good, as I’m the exact same! St Stephens looks great doesn’t it, I’m 23 and thought the college would be ideal for a close knit community.
I’ve not heard back yet though, have you? From memory it was 8-10 weeks after applying so should hear back this month.

No I’ve not heard back either, but hoping it will be soon! It looks lovely to live there and I drive so the parking really appeals as well as all the lovely classic Oxford traditions. I will drop another post once I hear back from the college. I was going to try and private message you so we could connect on WhatsApp or something but I have no idea how to do that on here 🤣

Hi Jacqueline, I will also be on the history PGCE programme, great to meet someone else who is! I'd love to connect too! I'm new to the Student Room so apparently I can't send private messages for a few days, so just saying hello in the forum instead

Nice to meet you all. I will be on the Maths PGCE Programme at St. Annes. I'm just wondering how everyone is getting along about contacting schools with regards to spring bundle. It would be great to share schools given if they can provide school experience, I'm sure they are likely open to providing it for other subjects as well!P.S. will be able to private message in a few days as new account, looking forward to get in touch and for any responses

Hi, nice to meet you all!
I have an interview for a PGCE in biology on the 27th so I have a while to prep. I only just received an offer from UCL yesterday which gave me a little confidence boost.
A lot of people I know are telling me that it isn't really the calibre of the uni that's important, but the location you want to train in. Honestly I would love to go to Oxford, but is it more sensible to do it in London if I plan to teach here?

Hello @Dee2412 I think the location may matter if the school you are being trained is is hiring teachers in your subject - they may employ you after the PGCE

I've found an additional secondary school which may be willing to provide school experience for orientation week in High Wycombe, if you're an incoming intern at Oxford PGCE PM me so I know you are interested

Hello, nice to meet you! I’m exploring a few options for the first week of school experience, how’re you getting on? I’m based in Wales so considering doing it here or further afield depending on contacts in England! We’ve put a group of us together who’ve reached out in this thread in a group chat to compare notes etc.. let me know if you’d like to join via DM☺️

Hi! I agree with @W.Beaver it’s probably the location which would sway your decision. Oxfords course structure with the opportunity to work in various schools and how good the connections are the year are pretty impressive. And of course Oxford is an amazing place to live and work so it personally really impacted my choice!
Good luck with your interview ! X

Thanks Lucy, I have DMed you I think! Not too certain about PMs or DMs on here as I'm quite new to this forum. Have been getting on alright - just has been proving tricky to get a primary school to respond. Since I'll be moving to Oxford in August I am trying to look for schools in that area

I have literally just accepted my offer to study just now. Haven't received my offer pack yet, but what is this about orientation week I'm hearing? Are we supposed to find our own school experience around Oxford?

Yes that's correct Dee, you need to find some for the week before term starts
