Best MSc Computer Science - Online Course

I have read the many unfavourable reviews of HEP Computer Science masters. I'm wondering if there are any decent non-HEP CS MScs under £9000 for the whole course. I have my eyes on UOL and Northumbria.

The downsides to UOL are having to pay extra for exams, and no reviews as it is a new course. The downside to Northumbria is the major project is a research essay rather than a development project. Any input or suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

What is HEP?

Hi Hk30. I'm at Northumbria doing MSc Computer Science (distance learning). I've done most modules. Only one left, then final project. From what I know, it's a development project with a write-up. I remember asking and I'm pretty sure this is what I was told.

I’m currently looking into pursuing this course and would greatly appreciate your insights.Could you provide me with detailed thoughts about the program, including information on the courses, exams, and any other relevant aspects? Additionally, if possible, could you share some previous materials or resources that might help me in making an informed decision?Thank you so much for your assistance!

Unless you require specifically to do your MSc in CompSci (online) at a UK university, why not try US universities? OMSCS at Georgia Tech is likely the gold standard, and Uni of Texas Austin also offers a MS in CS (online), that is priced at 10k USD, and Uni of Texas Austin is very reputable globally for Comp Sci.

Furthermore, the course offerings at Uni of Northumbria, for its distance learning MSc in Comp Sci, does not appear very strong and competitive with a similar BSc in Comp Sci (I don't think they cover Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Organization and Architecture, Operating Systems, Compilers, Databases, Computer Networks).

Thank you for the suggestion! I am also considering the OMSCS at Georgia Tech and would appreciate any thoughts or insights you might have. If you have any previous material or resources that could help me make an informed decision, I would be very grateful. One more thing—do you have any information about the acceptance rate, particularly for candidates with a 2:2 GPA?

Haha, sorry mate, I'm a current student at the Open University, doing a Math degree, and I have no experience in doing a Masters in CS.

I'd say by reputation, OMSCS at Georgia Tech and MSCSO at UTexas-Austin are probably the best choices available. Stanford also has an online Masters in CS, but their tuition fees are 5 to 6 times more, I think.

I think there's 0 harm just going for it, it's cheap enough anyway that you can just try it out. Georgia Tech has some pre-reqs courses on EdX, covering basic programming in Python, Java, and Data Structures and Algorithms. I think if you cover those, and you start slow and work hard, Georgia Tech itself thinks that you should have a fair chance - that's why they put those EdX courses as pre-reqs.
