Hi,
You can still claim student finance if you are going to university - it will be dependent on your household income and whether you are living at home or moving away. It doesn't matter if it is halls of residence per se but these are most common for first year students as they're usually monitored by the university! It is common for students to find friends and rent a house together for the academic year and they can still claim student finance.
