I think it depends on how angry your friend got at him and what the result of that was. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much because it sounds like he did waste your time a little. The sentiment of him not wanting to drag you down is thoughtful I guess but if he had already said that previously then maybe he should have thought about that before being in a relationship with you. I think you have every right to be a little angry. There is probably not much point in getting hung up about it now and feeling bad and however you reacted at that moment was probably justifiable, I can understand how what he has done must be so frustrating. Don't be too hard on yourself!
