It's pretty simple. The first part is the group assessment, it may be different on different days but it's essentially the same. First you'll ask the person next to you info about them and try to memorise as much as you can my best advise is: age, location, education, hobby, skill. get that info memorised and any other stuff you can think of, work together to do this as the assessors will be looking for communication rather than info dumping. then a group activity where you may be sorting calls by emergency, 1-6 (1-most severe get police asap 15mins top, 2-less emergent police within 1 hour, etc they will explain when you are there) if your team doesn't finish putting them into categories that's fine as long as the assessors are able to see clear communication between you.
Next is the typing test you should get a link to the practice site i'd suggest doing different settings on the page (random words, songs, books etc) as it helps change your cognitive view. In the test there will be pre-written text (usually something you would hear on a 999 call) do your best to copy it to a T as they care more for accuracy over speed also watch out when you are reading as they may change how numbers are written (like this: Twenty vs 20 ) so when you are reading it make sure you watch out for that.
If you make it through you'll then have the 1 on 1 interview it will be you and 2 assessors 1 writing the info 1 talking to you basic interview questions like; why do you want to work here? and more of the same that you answered on the phone interview, and they may also ask scenario based questions like; if you saw a coworker breaking the rules what would you do? answer as honestly as you can and be yourself.
You may have to wait around for them to deliberate for a while, it is nerve wracking, they will take you back into the room you had the interview and tell you whether you passed or not

Hope this helped

@shonpjb sorry to keep on disturbing you , can you please tell me if your typing test was audio or pre-written as I was told it will be audio test based on previous calls and we have to type it out . Sorry just freaking out .Thank you. Also how long ago was your interview if you don't mind me asking.

For me it was copying text on a screen but if in your email correspondence with the assessors it has told you it's audio clips i would take their word instead of mine. It's probably slightly different for everyone.
If it's copying text on the screen I would assume you would get the email which has the practice typing test website attached like I did.
sorry i couldn't be more help

In the email there was attached the speed typing onine but during the MEET AND GREET workshop we were told it will be audio test. Honestly, you have been more than helpful, and once again, I apologise for pestering you.Thank you.

I'd say in that case practice for both and focus on spelling grammar and punctuation spend your time working on those and the speed will increase as you get used to it. We were told they care more for accuracy over speed.

As this thread is quite out of date I thought I’d post a recent update on how your assessment day and interview will go for 999/101 comms officer London. You will be a in a group, first activity is unmarked, more of an ice breaker to get to know each other and how well you can memorise facts your partner has told you about themselves. Second is an online simulation where you basically pretend like you’re a call centre agent with a fake system on screen. For practice You will listen to some random calls between a call centre agent and a customer (not emergency calls). This is where you can practice navigating through the system and will give you an idea of how the calls will go. Once you start the actual assessment you will only hear the customers voice and You will then have to select correct options on the system regarding the call and what the customer is saying. (eg: what the reason for the call is, what action needs to be taken) . At the end you write up a summary of the call which you are measured on for speed and accuracy (you just copy the call summary that is pre written for you ) from what I remember you have about 40 minutes in total to complete the 3 call simulations (similar to the practice ones) so you dont need to rush (expect the typingPart) . As soon as you press the button to end the call i think that’s when the timer starts for typing test of the call summary which will be pre written and you just copy word for word so be quick as you may run out of time before finishing all the words. It’s quite easy and you probably won’t need the whole 40 minutes. Once everyone is done you will be told who passed and who didn’t. ( not sure if u can re take if you don’t pass). You will then wait to be interviewed. There are 2 people in the interview and they take turns to write notes and ask questions. I think you are asked 5 questions in total. One of the questions I remember is why have you applied or why do you want to work in this role. I don’t really remember the rest but it was basically them asking you a time when you have done certain things and provide specific examples and the outcome of those situations. Although the interview is based on the values, also practice on how you will answer the questions and think of specific scenarios you can say for example a time where you worked collaboratively or a time where you took on feedback and how this went or a time you’ve had to deal with a distressing situation and how you managed it. The online assessment is quite easy so the interview is the main part to practice for. Thats as much detail as I can remember. Hope this helps :smile:Also there is parking available opposite the building where you will do the assessment and also on nearby roads which would be around £8-10 for 4-5 hours.

What does it say when you login to the portal?
If it says it’s in the pre employment checks it means they are doing there final review.

I logged into the portal and it says “We will begin contacting your referees to obtain their references. If you have requested that we refrain from contacting your current employer, please be assured that we will wait until you have formally accepted an offer before reaching out to them”

I completed my medical and also given in total of 4 referees in February still haven’t heard anything

This still means your references are still not completed, therefore contact the reference providers to see if it can speed up the process from their side.

They’ve been contacted already and forms have been sent

Reply 53

This means the references are still in process.

From what I was told at the interview you don’t get a unconditional offer until you pass the 3 month training which there will be a test at the end of the 3 months after you pass training you get the unconditional offer.

Thanks for your help!! In your group interview how many where you in total and at they end how many including yourself for the job. Are they very strict with who they hire

When I have my group interview in March there was 10 of us. After the online call center test you are taken to a separate room where you will wait for you face to face interview or you are taken to another room where you are told you failed the call center test. They are Very strict with who they hire. I remember after the call centre test out of the 10 people I was in a room of only 4 me included. I have no idea what happened to the rest of the people. I have no idea if the 6 other people failed or not. But when I was in the room and there was 4 of us the man who was overseeing our call centre test came in and said “you have all passed” and that we was to wait until we are called for our face to face interview. So honestly you won’t really know who passed or who failed really just focus on yourself. And practice your answers for the face to face because they are very strict. If you don’t give specific answers to there questions you won’t get the job and they till you right there and then. Before I was offered the job I have an interview last year I passed the call centre but failed the face to face because my answers was not specific.
