Statics. Most people find those to be the toughest so it will probably come at the end.

Jan 2004 was rather hard! has any1 got the soln to Q6c
I've looked at the official mark scheme but I don't get the way they've done it :confused:

Just use the expressions in terms of u, e to find the overall end KE and equate it to (1/6)mu^2.

You found the speed of them after the collision.
Use these expressions to find the overall end KE in terms of u, m and e.
You can cancel the u and m to leave an equation in e.
You can then solve this to find the correct value.

Good luck in the afternoon Edexcel M2 exam everyone!
advice from myself is to think carefully and dun rush too much..
coz i done 4 past paper last night, and made lots of silly mistakes..
remember when to put g and when not to..
and dun get sin and cos mixed up when resolving horizontally and vertically~

lol...yah, i am just silly

Good Luck, people!

I did M2 last summer.

I did a question on a topic I knew well to start with, to get the adrenaline level to settle a bit, and left anything I was going to get at all stuck on until the end. It was OK.

and then solve for F

2) a) ...
b) 25 degrees

range e > 2/3
e = 7/9 i think

I went in mind-blanked, and came out mind-blanked..
Oh man, messed up M2 totally..!

For Car + trailer question...
what did people get for the decelebration after brake applied? I got 0.9...
I totally ignored the fact that there is a Tension force between them..
lol!

For another question on Box moving from S to T....
I got energy gained = 25.8 or something like that..
and i got coeffficent of friction as 0.577...


For the coefficient restitution quetsion..
I can't prove its answer? I keep getting 9e-4 inside the bracket
and next part, i got range of 2/3 < e < 1
and e = 41/45 ....


For the Position vector thing..I remember something like...
61i +28j ...



Thats all I remember..
partly because I am goldfish, and partly because I have selective memory ...
ie. i do not want to remember this exam!
=.= ...........Am I the only one who sucked at M2?

Yeay! I got the same for the e question. and the angle.

Last question (projectiles) I got

a) t = 4.77 seconds
b) forgot what this was. was it distance? got about 100 and something.

one of them, find v, I got horizontal v = 25.6 and vertical v = -21.1 so modulus v is whatever that is (pythagoras).

angle was 39.5 i think.

one of the questions involving a particle on an inclined plane, i got coefficient of friction to be 0.671 or something like that.

The car and trailer question is completely threw me though! No idea about that! Got deceleration is 1.4 ms^-2 but then the rest didnt know how to do.

For the question where you where given velocity in terms of i and j, the last bit I got something like 61i + 148/3 j , so distance is something like 78.5 or something.

For first question, after the "shot that" part, I got that the horizontal component is something like 2/3 W.

Questions I remember:

1) Statics... hinge with rod with string or whatever it was..
a) Show T = 5/6W
b) The magnitude of horizontal force... 2W/3

2)Centre of mass of the Lamina (rectangle with circle cut out)
a) Distance from left side - 10.7 cm
b) Hung from point A - angle to verticle... 25 degrees (to nearest degree)

3) The thing on inclined plane
a) Energy lost... 40.98 J -> 41.0 J (3sf)
b) coefficient of friction... bad memory

4) Given particle velocity.. and initial position vector as (-3i + 4j)
a) Find F at t = 4....... 5.01N
b) Displacement from O ... 72.4 or 78.6 or something in that region

5) Caravan being towed by car (mass: 1500kg and 1000kg respectively) (resistive force on car = 750N)
a) Show resistive force on caravan.. 1250 N
b) Guy hits breaks... 1500N as a result of breaks.. find Deceleration-- can't remember
c) The trust as a result -- can't remember
d) Work done in stopping vehicle in kJ -- can't remember

6) Two particles going towards each other
a) Show speed of second particle after collision was 1/5 * u * (9e +4)
b) range of e ... something like e > 2/3
c) Given impulse on Q = 32mu/5 (or something) find value of e... e=7/9

7) Projectile... starts at 20m above ground... projected at a speed (can't remember speed)
a) Find time to hit ground.. think i got something like 4.77 seconds
b) Horizontal distance from O to point of impact on ground.. 122m
c) Speed when the particle is at a point (B) 16m above ground... 33.2ms^-1
d) Angle the direction of motion made to horizontal at point (B).. 39.6 degrees.. (3sf)

Thats what I got

Paper wasn't that bad... easier then most past papers.
