Nothing wrong with starting to look now, particularly if you know what sort of subject you might be interested in. And especially if you think Oxbridge might be an option--last year they held the open day for the subject I was interested in around March, my last chance to do an open day before the application process! But I didn't start investigating until April, so I missed it .

I put off going to open days until after summer holidays because I wasn't sure what subject I wanted to study. I ended up regretting it because I missed some uni's open days altogether (Durham only has them in the summer) and others weren't until after I sent my UCAS app (Edinburgh's wasn't until late October). So even if you aren't sure what you are doing yet, go...you can still get the feel of the place and have a good nose around.
