Just wondering, how'd you end up with an unconditional offer? Is it cause you've already got all your secondary school grades due to, say, a gap year?
Got rejected from edinburgh but it was my dream uni, looks like an incredible place. Congrats!
Yeah it wasn’t my first time applying so already had my grades. Took time off between school and uni to get some life experience working, saving for uni, and get as much animal work experiences I could.
I’m sorry to hear about your rejection, but don’t let that stop you, I didn’t even get an interview for Edinburgh last year! What’s for you won’t go by you! 😌

Do you mind if i ask which year you graduated school in? I'd love to reapply for the 2023 entering batch but honestly there's absolutely no opportunity for me to obtain work experience in the place i'm from. Plus, between exams (I do British A Level) and the application deadline, there's not enough time to travel between places to obtain that experience either. Really wish that I lived somewhere else. I'm going to a central European vet school instead and if I find after first year that UK will be a better choice, then I'm probably gonna apply in 2023 for the 2024 batch. Just concerned about the fact that I'll be two years older than all my peers but at least there's definitely a better chance of getting in since I'd already have done vet school for a year and obtained work experience probably. Thanks for your kind words

Not at all! I left school in 2018 so it’s taken me 4 years and I felt the same way, will it be weird that I’m so much older than everyone? It’s also annoying because if I had gone straight into vet school I’d be halfway through my 4th year right now😩 I feel like it will be fine though, at the end of the day there’s people in uni that are so much older than what we are and I personally think that being a mature student will be so beneficial in loads of ways, the only downside is obviously having to pick up education after a while I might be a wee bit rusty at the beginning. Also since it’s a vocational degree I hear so many stories of people who don’t get in first try, so there may well be more people than I expect to be older! Going to a european vet school sounds really interesting aswell! We could maybe even speak after our first years and compare the two so it’s easier for you to decide whether you want to stay or move back to a UK one? All the best!!

Wow, thanks for that offer. That'd be amazing! I'm always trying my best to hear student experiences from all different unis so I can make informed decisions. And yeah I think especially in vet med, there's comparatively quite a few students that haven't come straight out of highschool because we gotta juggle getting work experience and schoolwork. Plus, it's a very demanding course and profession so I guess it's also good to have a little break before diving into it again. I was wondering tho, I thought that they had some kind of condition where you had to apply within 2 years of recieving your secondary school qualification, or am I wrong about that? Either way, good luck for your studies and whatever you decide to pursue... You sound like a great person and I'm hope life treats you well I do plan on moving to the UK when I start working so I look forward to that, whenever it happens.

So so sorry just seen this, I’m not so sure about applying within two years, I’ve had friends apply and get offers with a three and four year gap between high school and university so I don’t think there is? Maybe different universities have different rules 🤔
got an offer this morning and definitely firming if all goes to plan! have you heard anything about any offer holder events?
Hey! Congratulations on your offer you must be so proud! I had an email a couple days ago and it was a newsletter from the school and they did have an on-campus event that you could sign up for, they also had loads and loads of online webinars too if you’re international or live quite far. The email also had a link to the Facebook group for offer holders so you should receive that fairly soon if you haven’t already. It’s so exciting meeting people that I might be going to university with 😊

Thank you! great that’s very helpful! Hope to see you this september
Ahh okay, I applied for the four-year program and still anxiously waiting. Seeing so many people got the offer already just stressed me out. But at least this means I still got hope? 👀 Congratulations to you and thank you so much for the reply!! ☺️
Anyone got any thoughts as to the best accomodation for vet students at Edinburgh, in terms of: 1. location and ease of access to Easter Bush? 2. being around other vet students - where do most go? 3. catering for coeliac disease, ie plenty of gluten-free options on the catered menu?
The two sites that were mentioned on a vet talk were Pollock site and Morningside.

I’m not going into accommodation so can’t be a massive help but are you in the Edinburgh uni created Facebook group? They’ve made posts and there is a WhatsApp but tsr doesn’t let you put personal info on this 😑the girls were talking about it today and were looking at south clerk and hermits Croft

I don’t know about catered accom, but when you look at the different options on the website, there is a table that tells you how far away the building is from Easter bush, supermarkets etc

They recommend not going into catered accommodation if you are in the vet program. Our schedule is different than other students so there is a few weeks where they will not be providing catering but you will be stuck eating food out of a microwave. As far as the other accommodation, they have a website where they list each hall and it's distance from Easter Bush, location on a map, etc. Personal I chose self catered halls in the middle of the city but not on Cowgate (huge bar area that can be noisy), but that's mostly because I want to be near the Pleasance gym and the grocery stores.
