Hi, I have a friend (friend A) who left the school I go to and so we have been out of touch for quite a while. During this time, one of our other friends (let's call them friend B) has come out as transgender and has changed their name. Friend A doesn't know this so I need to tell them but I don't know how to do this without dead naming friend B.

How should I tell A? The reason why I ask is because I don't want to unintentionally offend anyone

I personally haven't been in this situation before but I would start by easing into a conversation with friend A. Ask friend B if they're comfortable with you using their dead name as a term of reference. If they say they would prefer you not to then perhaps try describing friend B in such a way that friend A understands who you're talking about or express the situation first (i.e. a mutual friend of yours has come out as trans with a new name and you don't want to dead name them).

Why do you need to tell Friend A?

B is a friend of A so it's up to them to say something.
