Does clearing take UCAS points? I'm slightly confused.

After looking at some clearing stories and the clearing website they seems to prioritise UCAS / tariff points rather than specific grades like AAB.
Is this right or am I getting something wrong?

This would be better for me personally as I was predicted A,B,Merit + A EPQ (136 UCAS Points), but should be getting A,B,Distinction + A EPQ (160 UCAS Points) and I'm considering applying for clearing depending on what offers I get.

Any info or thoughts on this?

There will be a mixture of unis asking for points or specific grades. Typically, lower ranked unis ask for points, but that's not a golden rule.
