You can significantly cut the cost of pilot training by following a modular pathway or doing a license abroad. You don't need to go to university to become a pilot. The top training providers only require passes in Maths and English GCSE. You may find a few that require 2 a levels. You can do a degree that includes pilot training but this is not necessary and will add additional workload for no real extra benefit to becoming a commercial pilot.

You also cut flight training more by applying for flying or gliding scholarships (there is quite a few that exist). Also, you don't need to go straight to the fATPL. You can get paid work as a pilot with only a CPL. You can then build hours and save money for the rest of your licenses if that is an issue.

Make sure you get your Class 1 medical before you do any of this. It will be terrible if you started paying for flight time and courses when you may not be physically eligible to be a pilot.
