Student finance help

Hi my son is in his 3rd year of university, because he didn't apply to student finance for fees last year he automatically thought he didn't need to this year, he thought it just carried on. He has been sent an invoice for his fees, can be still apply for student finance, he's very worried as they have locked his uni account
Hi, yes you need to apply for student finance every year, I think it's in case circumstances change, as someone may drop out of uni or change courses, or any number of things really, which is why it's necessary to do it every year.

The student finance website says that "You can still apply for funding up to 9 months after the first day of the academic year for your course" https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-student-finance/when?step-by-step-nav=18045f76-ac04-41b7-b147-5687d8fbb64a so your son can still apply now. He just needs to log into his student finance account and complete the application for this academic year. I don't know how they work out funding for late applications as usually student finance is given out in three amounts, one for each semester, and the first and second semester payments have already gone out, so if I were you I would tell your son to ring up student finance and ask about this and then to complete his application. You will find all contact details here: https://www.gov.uk/contact-student-finance-england . When your son calls he will need to have his student finance number an password at the ready.

I hope this helps some and I hope this situation is able to be solved quickly.
