I am looking to sit the QLA exams to requalify in Scotland. Has anyone sat these recently and have any books for sale? Also any advice would be gratefully received esp about exemptions. (This has replaced the UK intra-transfer test). Many thanks, Kerry

Hello Kerry, it would be great if you could share some advice on how you prepared for the exams. I will PM you.

If you would like to pm me I am happy to give you some guidance. I have now competed all seven exams and was admitted to the Roll last week. Kind regards, Kerry

Hi Kerry,
I am New Zealand qualified and due to start the QLA exams this November. Can I ask how you found each of the 7 that you sat? Would you have any advice?
I’d be really grateful for any advice!

Hi Kerry,
Congratulations. I am happy for you.
I am also sitting for my first exam in May and I would appreciate it if you could help me with some tips on approaching the exams.

Hi all, I am hoping to sit the exams in November. If anyone has set up a group to share advice/materials I would be most grateful if I could be added please. Thanks very much.

Hi all. I want to get started on the process of dual qualifying and struggling to get any information on the process apart from on the Law Soc of Scotland website. Anyone who has done/in the process of doing the exams would you be able to offer some advice? I understand we need to complete the exams within 12 months of the certificate - do you think this is do-able while working full-time? In terms of exemptions - do you apply for these once you have your certificate or can you do this before?

Hi Kerry,
Im looking to sit QLA exams as well but I'm clueless at the moment with prep. I can see your post was 11 months ago. Did you end up giving the exam, if so, it would be great if we can have a chat and if you can help me provide some exam prep material. It would help me tremendously
Thanks.

At present I am also in search of preparation material. Being lawyer I have idea and research of concerned laws and acts of Scotland. Please consider for Perlego for online books.

Is there any place (academy/university) that helps with this exams?

I have searched but found no academy or university or institute for preparation. Do you know any LL.B final student from university of Edinburgh, Glasgow or Strathclyde he can provide used books and materials for preparation.

Hello, everyone. I am planning to take QLA this year, does anyone have any advice or guidance on how to prepare for examinations or any group or chat exchanging information in the meantime? It would be quite useful if you could share and assist me in this.

What exams are you referring to exactly, all of them? I only have to sit seven. I did three in May and have four next month. I don’t have access to any online material which has been a real problem for criminal procedure which is by far the hardest to prepare for. Although you can apply as a member or the public to join a Uni library they don’t allow you access to the online material. I bought hard copies from Amazon either new or used. As I read through them I highlighted bits and typed up revision notes. Money Laundering Regs and guidance are online as is the Criminal Procedure Act 1995. I have my hands full atm juggling exam prep and work. Kind regards, Kerry

HI I have passed 10 exams and left with Procedure exam failed third time and advise as its my last attempt, anyone can contact me on 07526278427

Could you guide me on the examinations you've already passed, tips on how to attempt, materials etc, any information would be useful. Thank you in advance.

For criminal procedure, is there a Scottish equivalent of Archbold? If so, read that until you know it backwards. For civil procedure, is there a Scottish equivalent of volume 1 of the White Book?

If you already work at a law firm, ask whether it has online subscriptions to relevant materials which you can use for studying. The firm might decline to assist if you are planning to leave for a Scottish firm, but there may be no harm in asking. It might be cheaper to offer to pay the firm to extend its subscription to Scottish materials than buying your own. As you probably know, law firms obtain discounts on bulk subscriptions.

Perhaps the university of which you are a graduate would allow you to use its library.

I am doing some revision notes on trusts and succession atm. The Gretton and Steven text is succinct but too much so in some areas. You will need to refer to Hiram’s text to add some of the detail required to answer the problem questions but be careful because although reprinted 2016 it doesn’t include the changes in the Succession (Scotland) Act 2016.

hi, i am aishwarya preparing for the qla exams could you share your notes with me
