What accommodation is everyone thinking of applying for? Not sure if village or city is better

I’m thinking village for the first year just for socialising and it’s cheaper

Yh I’m coming just before 10 cuz it ends at 10. I think you have to register
Great to see some of you guys at the offer holder day, unfortunately I am still undecided on whether to go for city accommodation or village accommodation. I have heard different pros and cons with things like accessibility for the city but the social aspect for the village. What are you guys thinking about doing and if you could some reasons for why would be great to help me make up my mind?
Hi! I unfortunately couldn't make it to the Offer Holder Day today, hope you guys had a good time! I was wondering if there were any important points they mentioned today or anything specific that made you really like the place? Or was it just a general day where you were able to tour the campus? Hope to see some of you in September :h:

There wasn’t anything essential that you missed out on if you didn’t manage to make it. The med specific stuff started off with the general welcome and was an intro to the med school. Then it was just a group session on making diagnoses.

Tbf I’ve visited Leicester a couple times but I think today was the first time I’ve properly explored. It’s actually a pretty vibrant city with super friendly people. Also during a Q&A the med students genuinely seemed enthusiastic about Leicester and talked highly about the course structure - which makes studying less stressful for them compared to other medics in the UK. Definitely is now making me question what I will firm if I get my other offer.

I didn’t go on the campus/accommodation tour but from what the med students said, 4/5 recommended the village.
Did anyone else attend the offer holder day today?? I was really really impressed with it and it completely exceeded my expectations:biggrin:

For anyone that wasn't able to come, the campus is lovely and so are all the students. I got a really friendly vibe from the city in general! The med school seems to be really keen to try out new things to make it easier for the students which sounded great. They seemed to place a huge emphasis on making sure we are well equipped to enter our placements and the world of work as far as the course is concerned which really appealed to me!

I took the bus to the village and it seemed to be a manageable journey - really not long at all! I think the village is generally cheaper but less modern. The ones with shared bathrooms are pretty good value and it seemed to be max 3 per bathroom. I loved the little communal areas dotted around too:smile: A lot of the students I spoke to said it was very popular with freshers as there is a real sense of community there and they do lots of events.

I only got to see a little bit of the city accommodation in the new bit. It was extremely modern and the rooms and kitchen are gorgeous. It's also not been lived in before which is a big bonus. However, it is so expensive!! The city seemed more popular with the grads I spoke to that already had the "uni experience" but they said there are plenty of events for freshers too so you're not missing out!

One of the reps at the accommodation said if you plan on bringing a car to uni it's much easier to do so in the village as there is more space so it's easier to get a parking permit. She said they generally only allow them in the city for accessibility reasons.

Hi! Thank you both so much for your thoughts, that all sounds so interesting! The course structure sounded really appealing to me when looking online, it seems to be really student-focused, glad to know that Leicester students were keen on it too! And the accommodation options seem great too!
Thank you both for taking the time to tell us about the day

I am a parent and went to the offerholders’ day with my daughter today. We were so impressed - with what the medical school put on in the morning, the students and members of staff we spoke to, the campus itself and the accommodation (only saw City ones). Maybe the sunshine helped but the day exceeded our expectations.
Went to the offer holder day yesterday with my daughter and I couldn't agree more with the positive comments already made. The medical school appears to be really impressive, students were super friendly, staff were inspirational. I left with the impression that they are forward thinking re technology and general attitudes to learning, really want to create an empathetic experience for students and patients, encourage intercalation for anyone who wants to do it and heavily invested in research. My daughter received 2 offers, one from B'ham and one from Leicester. We went along thinking that Leicester would be her back up but her thoughts have totally changed. It's hard to put my finger on but we just got a really good feeling about Leicester whereas B'ham offer day left us feeling underwhelmed, like they don't have to try that hard. Re accommodation, we visited both. City is new and clean and expensive! Think my daughter will plump for village mainly for social side and meeting others.
As others have said, Leicester totally exceeded our expectations.

I was in the same boat with Cardiff and Leciester. Cardiff has always been my dream uni but yesterday really made me rethink that!! Going to be a really tricky decision!!

I really don't know!! I loved every aspect of Leicester yesterday and can imagine myself being really happy there:smile: The Cardiff offer holder event is tomorrow but it's online unfortunately so I feel like I won't be able to make a fair comparison! I love the course at Cardiff and being welsh, I know a fair few people who go there and are all really happy so I'm really conflicted rn!
Do we need to buy a stethoscope and lab coat before going to medschool? And if yes is there a specific type that we need to get.

Not sure about a lab coat but in the offer email from Leicester it says you need to buy a stethoscope

@Sarah1520 I have the Littman Classic 3 : it was fairly affordable and it’s an excellent stethoscope too ; I’ve been plaguing my fam for practice opportunities lol.

Yea the offer day was really impressive; the professors were so bright and obvs at the top of their game. I like the way it’s not very lecture heavy and there’s emphasis on working together through things in a group as there’s loads of evidence this actually works for making you retain the info.

Deffo has made me give a lot more consideration to accepting the offer: I’m on a waitlist for Belfast and it would be more convenient for me in terms of practicality but I would not lament going to Leicester. It’s deffo gonna provide an excellent clinical education
hi guys, I just want to ask approximately how many applicants were there in the offer holder day?
