Visual communications

Can you become a graphic designer with a visual communications degree? My uni doesn’t offer graphic design so was wondering if you can do the same with a Visual communications degree
Hey WcBc,

Generally, the difference is that visual communications is a broader area, which includes graphic design but often also encompasses specialisms such as illustration, photography and/or animation, whereas graphic design is more specific in the skillset. That being said, each Visual Communication, Graphic Design and Graphic Communication course at each institution will have modules and units covering different areas, and this will vary wherever you chose to study.

If you're keen to study Visual Communications, you should definitely consider your options, especially if you feel like the course offered at your university isn't what you're looking for or doesn't really suit you or your skillset. You can find a full list of Visual Communication courses here on WhatUni.

Hope this helps,
