Basically the main responsibility of this trade is to maintain the survival equipment for the aircrew. For example, Flight Jacket, you have to make sure the condition of the jacket is in good condition, as well as the survival aids such as drinkable water is up to date, if not you will have to change it for them. Some jobs are more physically demanding than the others, packing parachute, mult-seats liferaft etc. For travelling, yes SES tech do get the opportunity to travel overseas, in particular Parachute Engineering Squadron in RAF Brize Norton, they do travel a lot to USA.

Although it is an engineering trade with engineering work, the job itself does not involve "fixing the aircraft" as this is the aircraft technician (avionics) or (mechanical) job.

If you don't have a driving licence the management will put you on a driving lesson.
