Why is the demand for shorter alkanes greater than the demand for longer alkanes?

main use of alkanes is as fuels. Short chain alkanes are more flammable, have lower flash points and are mostly gases and liquids. Huge demand e.g. for methane gas from Russia atm is causing lots of problems- everyone wants short chain hydrocarbons for fuels such as petrol'diesel.

long chain hydrocarbons such as bitumen are not flammable. try here for more info
