Tfl DLR fare checker/ fine

Hi, any suggestion or what could happen would be nice. I was on the dlr in the afternoon, the conductor randomly was checking the carriage with his machine, but I didn’t tap in. I tapped on his machine with my contactless card payment on my phone. He didn’t say anything and moved on ? Am I going to get a fine or be prosecuted? As I didn’t know if I should have tapped out but then i would have been be overcharged? I haven’t given any details like my address or name though.

Nah u wont get a fine, without details. are u sure it was not a scam. normally they dont inspect tickets on the tube they do it at the exit and on the carriage. R u sure they werent trying to get ur card details.

Thanks for replying, no it was the conductor, like there’s always one on the trainer. But he was walking up and scanning everyone’s payment method. So this was new and he came to me scanned my phone, and nothing happened. I heard him saying if you tapped in and out you’re fine. He doesn’t have any of my details tho. Just a bit paranoid. I was on the carriage, and he didn’t say much though. Any risk that they can obtain my address and details from the bank?

no risk, the bank wont hand over ur details to tfl for two reasons number one if u have an iphone tfl wont have got ur details it would have got a unique code from apple which apple deals with and apple is high on privacy they wont hand over unless theres a court order which there is a 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of happening right. If they were gonna fine u they would have done it there and then. its a on the spot fine or court which is handled there on the spot.so dw.

Thank you for the reassurance 😭 tfl been making me broke. The day I don’t tap on, the guy checks. But I got a new bank card just in case, today. But is there any chance of being prosecuted though? Cos there’s been few times I just didn’t tap on. I know it ain’t right. Yh I used iPhone, the card payment was accepted though, like the sound was made from my side.

So a very tiny chance of being prosecuted ? Even tho I haven’t been fined or anything like it before, if the worse does happen, a fine as it’s first time

they give a fine or verbal warning on the spot if caught. It is not worth their time/resources to find u. to get your details from the bank it would probably take 20 hours at minimum wage its like 160 pound to send u a 60 fine calm down they dont care that much to send u the fine or prosecute.

look dw they wont do anything, its not worth the polices time. Now u have left it is a civil matter anyways and for 60 quid tfl aint gonna waste their time just tap in from now on. TFL are not MI5 or the FBI just enjoy the rest of ur day mate
