Does GCSE Maths really matter

Hi guys, I am having a situation here and I don't know what to do.

I did not do GCSE in UK , instead, I did the HKCEE (seen as GCSE equivalent) and ended up a C in Maths.
Although I had an A (297/300)in A-level maths here, because I am applying for computer science in university, I am afraid that this C would drag me down.

I applied for the top unis: Oxford, UCL, Imperial etc...that's why i am worrying.......
Should I take GCSE Maths again in year 13 to get a better grade?

If I were to take the GCSE Maths exam, as I have already submitted the UCAS form without mentioning I will be doing GCSE Maths in summer 2009 on it, do I need to let the university know about that? or it's just irrelevant ?
I wouldn't worry about it.
Most universities and jobs only require a C in Maths anyway.

Plus, if you have an A at Alevel in it (well done by the way), then that should over-ride it.

UK universities and courses are run by a tariff point system, which is only based on Alevel grades. Most universities will say '250 tariff points and GCSE English and Maths' (meaning a C grade in both of them).

So you should be ok.

I assume you mean you didn't put the resit on, as not revealing the C grade means your application will probably be invalidated.

For the Universities and course your mentioning it will matter a lot. Further down the tree you could make a case for yourself, but some of those might actually reject you just for not getting a C first time, even if you do resit.

Did you pick some good backups?

Ignore that, I forgot to notice you have A in it at A-level. It shouldn't matter, as long as you declared it.

No I did not do any GCSE Maths, I did HKCEE MAths, if I were to do GCSE Maths, it won't be a resit. I did not put the GCSE Maths onto the UCAS form as I am not sure I am doing it in summer 09. But I did put on the HKCEE C in Maths on there.

Is HKCEE Maths at C grade equivalent to GCSE? However, it's a moot point really, as if you've done AS or A-level at (very good) A grade it shouldn't affect you at all.

You should be able to explain that the HKCEE is equivalent to a GCSE. It may be difficult to get into Oxford with a C in maths however, the other choices should be fine though, especially considering you got almost full marks in A level maths!

Do you think it will make a difference to Oxford if I do Maths GCSE next year and got an A*?
Most universities I have seen want an A-C in maths which you have, I know some want all A's though but as you have an A in A Level maths it shouldn't really matter. Just ask the universities though to be sure.

Unless you take a gap year to do GCSE then you'll be wasting your time. if you've already applied then it means you're in year 13, so iuf you do it now it really would matter because the application has already been sent. You should've email the admissions tutor first to find out if the C in maths will be a problem. If you dont get any offers this year then do it next year. but you should get at least one so i wont worry about it.

HKCEE is far far harder than GCSEs though...
