kinghsip macbeth

hi can someone please look at my kingship essay and tell me how i could improve .

In the play macbeth, shakespeare uses the key theme of kingship continually throughout the play to define the difference between a good king and a bad king. We see this through four kings Duncan Edward Macbeth and Malcolm.

At the start of the play the audiences sees duncan a good king however he is a flawed king as later he is betrayed and killed .He himself admit that there ‘’is not art to finding the mind’s construction in the face. ’’ This inability to judge people well, ultimately leads to his downfall. The original Thane of Cowdor, ‘’a man in whom I placed utmost trust’’ rebelled against Scotland when under the reign of Duncan, something which Duncan could not foresee. Similar happened with Macbeth. Duncan trusted Macbeth and saw him as a ‘’brave and valiant cousin. ’’ Duncan’s trusting of Macbeth led to his own untimely death. We can see clearly Duncan’s weakness as king; he trusts too easily however later in the play his son Malcolm learns from his fathers mistakes and learns not to trust so easily.
When king Duncan's life is stolen from him, the world falls into chaos. The old man tells us ‘A falcon, towering in her pride of place,Was by a mousing owl hawk’d at and kill’d.’ The bird motive here shows how the order of the world has been destroyed at the king's death. The analogy also effectively shows the audience here that the world has become unnatural as the feudal system has been destroyed.

Macbeth is shown to be a bad king in the play. At the start of the tragedy, he is called ‘brave macbeth’ bellona's groom’ and ‘valiant cousin’ however when macbeth becomes king the nobles call him ‘an angry god’ a ‘tyrant’ and a ‘devil more damned’ the use of the juxtaposition here shows the audience that when macbeth became the king and stole the crown the people lost all the respect they had for him as macbeth became a ‘fiend of scotland’ who ultimately at the end of the play dies in the hands if justice so that the world will be restored back to normal with the rightful king malcolm.

In the play Macbeth, Shakespeare also uses Edward the king of england to also be a good king. Malcolm tells Macduff that Edward ‘solicits heaven’ successfully rightifying the divine right of kings. The juxtaposition also shows the difference between a good and a bad king as king edward asked god for help whereas macbeth asked the witches for help . edward is also described as having ‘sundary blessings around the throne’ the metaphor effectively reveals the the audience that even the people around king edward are happy and that he is a good king therefore the people around him are also good. Edward is also described as having the’ heavenly gift of prophecy,’ skillfully suggesting that edward is a true king as he is gifted with powers from god compared to macbeth.

maybe develop more on your thesis(so Shakespeare's agenda) and add more context so you can gain the Ao3. You could also add alternative interpretations as well as quotes to further back up the point you made. Context - could be to do with King james and how it was written to appraise him and when talking about macbeth you could talk about the idea of machiavellinism and Judith butlers gender theory to show how it was all really a facade as he fell of his throne which goes against nobility as he didn't die in a valiant of patriotic way,
