"Family is not always blood. It's about who's willing to hold your hand when you need it the most."

Stick with those friends. The fact you know you are your best self around them says a lot.
Because your relatives are toxic individuals who do not deserve any of your time or emotion.
Don't give them any.

I was raised in a toxic household too, surrounded by unpleasant people who constantly imposed themselves and their bizarre rules upon me.
Family is not about shared genetics or a surname, it is about the people closest to you who always care about you and show you that they care.
Good luck!
Because you get to choose your friends, but you can't choose your family. It's also harder to not see family than it is to not see someone you don't like.
I mean, you kinda already answered your own question.
And i'm the same so I can relate
You choose to be around your friends which means that you almost definitely like them.
You do not choose your family, so it's more likely that you may not like them.
