Bangor University-worried about getting in.

Last summer I fininshed my A Levels and got C in History, C in Geography and D in Psychology. I now have started to apply for uni and want do to a degree in Geography Bsc. Ive been to a few open days and found that bangor is the place I really, really want to go. The points is ok I need at least 240 to get in and with my general studies AS I have 250 (but I am retaking a module in psychology and this raise my overall grade to another C).

My biggest concern is that as I only got a C at A2 other people will have got better grades and may get in ahead of me despite the fact that I've got the points.

I also want to know if only having a C will mean that I will struggle with the course as most people seem to apply to uni with better grades. i know that i didn't work that hard in 6th form some times which is why my grades aren't as good as i wished they could be.

thanks for any help/advice.

Your best bet is to e-mail the university and ask... Do Bangor ask for a specific grade in Geography? If not, then I wouldn't worry...

Depends how many apply. If it's not a popular subject then they take people on who have lower grades than their minimum requirements so you should be fine

They wanted a C which is ok, I spoke to the the guy who runs the course and he said to email him so he could keep an eye on my application (which I have)

It just seems that nearly everybody on here gets A and B's and I sometimes struggle to get a C let alone a B or A!

I guess its most people on here seem to be able to pick from a large number of good universities whereas Bangor is the only one i really want to go to.

You have to remember that people on here tend to be more academically concerned than some other people might be, so the average grades on here tend to be quite high!

It seemed quite popular but I do have points (just) so I'm hoping it will be ok :frown:

I don't know I suppose I will just have to apply and wait and see.

i doubt bangor is that competitive anyways so you probably don't need to worry

I'm not applying for geography but I only got 3 C's at AS and I got an offer of 260pts
If you know your'e gonna get the grades then you'll probably get in.
Good luck

I graduated from Bangor University last year (summer just gone) and a few friends of mine on the coursre got a D in music. One ended up with a 2:1 so you could be perfectly capable of getting through the degree. If I'm honest, A-level grades, once you're at uni are not the be all and end all. The work is often different and for me it was more coursework based and no exams.

Just try not to worry, I'm sure you'll get given an offer, so work hard when you get there!

Okay thanks a lot that has made me feel a lot better :yep: . I'm determined to work so hard at uni to prove to myself and maybe other people that I am good enough to gain a good degree.

I know people on the doing Geography and lots of Geography related courses that share some modules. Not all of them have As at A level and all seem to be coping okay. The first year seems to be just getting everyone up to speed and introducing a very general concepts and the new way of learning etc.

As for Bangor itself. I personally love it! I would suggest that you come and visit though. Its a very small community, but nearly everyones student and amazingly friendly. Its very relaxed and there are loads to do surfing, climbing, loads of sports etc and there are plenty of pubs and a few clubs which always have special events and themes etc which are really good and tend to be pretty cheap compared to a lot of places. Also, there are plans to build a new student union!
