Pls tell me about Warwick...:)

Hi, I am currently trying to figure out whether I should apply to Cardiff or Warwick university. I have found a lot of information about living in Cardiff and believe I have a good enough idea however I don't know much about Warwick other than it is quieter and rural. If anyone could give me any information about their experience that would be great. Looking for things like what is the night-life like - number of clubs/bars and pubs available, how expensive is it to travel and also what are the people like? Also, what is the culture like/ does the place have a personality? I realize these might be stupid questions but I just don't have time to go see either of the places myself and want to make as informed a decision as I can.
The last bit I wanted to ask about was what the sport was like. Does anyone know what sports are available at the university? Any help is appreciated, thank you for listening to my ted talk :smile:xx

The uni is actually on the edge of Coventry (surrounding area isn't great icl).
Nearly all students live on campus 1st year which is its own kind of bubble.

Most nights out, and where most 2nd/3rd years live is Leamington (~25 min bus from Uni). There's 2 good clubs there and a lot of pubs/bars (maybe 30+ but really guessing).
Other place to go is Coventry where there's more clubs/bars/pubs with Kasbah Monday being the main one for Warwick Uni students

Hard to describe personality, only thing I can really say is Campus does feel like bit of a bubble but as with anywhere going to depend on timing and who you are with.

Pretty much any sport will have a club and I'm guessing that is case for most unis. If you go on the student union website : warwicksu , you can see a list.

It’s very much a campus. There’s not much around it It feels like a business park in all honesty - lots of 60’s buildings and concrete in amongst the odd modern structure. There is a bit of nature but it’s very controlled and man made.
Didn’t seem to be much of a party campus but I guess students can have fun wherever.
It’s a well respected Uni so that’s the big plus.
It’s got a huge sports centre and climbing wall.
There's a pub, a bar, and a club on campus, with another pub about 30 seconds walk from the edge of campus, and easy bus links to more pubs/clubs out in Leamington and Coventry. I mostly just go to the club on campus, but if you do want more there are always buses back home at the end of a night. It costs about £4-£4.50 for a day pass for the bus to either place, though most people who live out there will have a bus pass instead.

Everyone I've met here has been lovely and friendly, and there's a real community feel if you actively get involved with stuff (particularly within sports clubs and certain societies). There are also a lot of nice green spaces to walk in and around campus, which makes it a really pleasant place to live. The user who mentioned the business park vibe is definitely correct for central campus, which is what you mostly see on open days, but when you actually live here you realise that's not all there is.

There's a full list of sports clubs here: https://www.warwicksu.com/societies-sports/sports-clubs/. There are also several more exercise based societies (see here: https://www.warwicksu.com/societies-sports/societies/) such as pole and aerial arts and quite a few different dance clubs. The gym on campus is big, with lots of different courts and pitches around the centre and campus (squash courts, badminton, tennis, basketball, athletics, climbing, rugby, table tennis etc.). They run a lot of different classes (see https://warwick.ac.uk/services/sport/fitness-classes/fitness-classes-timetable.pdf for an example), and have a pool and rowing and cycling studios if that's your thing.

There are also more casual sports options, with the Rock Up and Play scheme (see https://warwick.ac.uk/services/sport/active/rock-up-and-play) and many societies having their own sports teams which compete against each other in campus leagues (https://warwick.ac.uk/services/sport/active/leagues).

Thank you for this, got a lot of details here that I needed. Should be able to make a decision tonight

Thank you for your honest feedback. It being so well respected is what is swaying me towards it a lot so this is helpful
