Hi can someone give me some help with the legal effect of the following?

    • In her will, Myrtle left ‘six of my most expensive pieces of antique jewellery to my trustees, whom I direct to sell them, and apply the proceeds to make sure that my elderly father, Arthur, enjoys a reasonable standard of living.’

    • Jack wrote a home-made will leaving, inter alia, ‘the residue of my estate to my brother, Pete, whom I instruct to try and distribute the property amongst such of my needy old drinking partners as he sees fit, in default of appointment to provide for my Mother.’
