I’m an offer holder for biomedical engineering BEng at QMUL but I want to do a year in industry now on top of my BEng. Am I able to just opt to do a year in industry once starting my course in September or is it too late?

Contact the university. If it's the same course just with a placement year then they will likely change you onto the course with a placement year assuming there are no additional entry requirements.
