Edexcel - A Level Politics Paper 1: 9PL0 01 - 25 May 2022 [Exam Chat]

Not sure if there's already a thread for this - how are we feeling? Any predictions for questions?

Theres a link to Thread that doesn’t work.

Bricking it, forgot most of the as content even though I’ve gone through it multiple times. I definitely feel there will be a question on political parties and maybe electoral systems? Feeling more confident for A2 content, socialism is pretty secure.

agreed - feeling WAY more confident about ideologies than other content, def hoping for socialism
I think I should just focus on examples for AS, at this point. Since it would just reinforce most of the content I’ve forgotten…

isn't there a question option on each socialism and conservatism ?

the question is a choice, but apparently it might be between two socialism or two conservatism so revise both

(i think this is probs unlikely but just to be safe)

I have only learnt socialism so I am really relying on the fact there will be a socialism option lol

Weirdly, I feel the opposite.

I'm more confident with the non-ideology stuff.

I definitely think there'll be a pressure groups question in there, possibly the source one. I've learnt Hunting Act 2004 and am thinking they might use a more recent one, like Extinction Rebellion.

Also expecting a party system question, maybe a media influence q. And then conservatism/socialism at the end.
Any thoughts?

Oh gosh - I'd do at least a quick conservatism fly through, as you'd hate for it to be a conservatism double whammy.

Hobbes = strong state, burke = tradition, Oakeshott = pragmatism, Rand = Laissez-faire, Nozick = Neo-liberal. That'll do :wink:

Yeah true I really don't want to open the paper and see two conservatism options. Wouldn't you say though they are most likely going to offer both ideologies as they included both in the advanced specification

Only revising liberalism, cos I just don't understand the other ideologies. I'm willing to take the risk!!
Done loads on parties and stuff and not much for anything else - feeling pretty ok about the 30 markers tbh but a bit worried about timing. It took me an hour and a half to write a 24 marker on liberalism and the state, and I could only think of 2 thinkers!!!! My teachers are a bit worried about me, but lucky to be surrounded by supportive friends.
What about you guys

I agree with you, but I still dont like those odds!
Just do a sweep of conservatism. It'll put your mind at ease just in case. Not much to loose.

Hey - edexcel have specified in the advanced information that conservatism and socialism are the only two that will be examined upon, so I'd definitely recommend looking at them two rather than liberalism.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys.
I thought that was just advice - do you mean there WONT BE A LIBERALISM QUESTION? oh my god I am going to die

Honestly I don't know enough to be sure enough to tell you.

I thought that, as socialism and conservatism are the only two in the advanced information, liberalism would not be assessed.

The start of the AI says "Questions will be drawn from one or more of the indicated areas of specification content."

Banking on electoral systems, pressure groups, how influential the main 2 parties are and maybe media, heard HRA could come up but hopefully the other choice will be ok if it does
there definitely won’t be. I just did economics today and only the things that were on the advanced information came up - it was the same exam board too

To clarify.

Everything that did come up was on the advanced information.

Not everything on the advanced information came up.
