Hi @mollyae67, I would recommend joining societies during freshers week. Societies hold regular social events. For example, last year, the law society held a boat party that was open to all SOAS students( great for socialising)! I would also recommend putting yourself out there and start conversations with new people!

Happy to help if you have any more questions!

Warmest,

H

Hi, are most students international students? Am interested in law.

SOAS has a diverse student body, and while a significant portion of the student population is international, it also attracts many students from the UK. The university’s global focus and specialized expertise in regions like Asia, Africa, and the Middle East naturally appeal to students from all over the world. This diversity enriches the learning environment, as students bring varied perspectives to discussions, especially in fields like law.

Hi there,

Different person but I am completing my Law LLB as well, although I confess I'm not doing LLB with Year Abroad.

Generally speaking, I guess the pros of going on a Year Abroad come if you are interested in either learning a language with your degree or if you want to law in a different jurisdiction. It's also an opportunity to explore a whole new country with your cohort, so it's like an extended educational holiday. Most students I have heard from, who partook in the year abroad programme, really enjoyed their time there. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you might find that you actually really enjoy the idea of working in that jurisdiction or you could enjoy your stay in your chosen country and have something amazing to mention in applications afterwards.

The cons I guess would be that it is an extra year of study, so your programme is 4 years instead of 3 years so it is a little more expensive. You will also be away from home, so you may get a little home sick.

I would highly recommend reaching out to some of our students who did a year abroad on Unibuddies if you want to ask them any questions.

I hope that helps 🙂
