What happens to the english language sources after the exam?

so after the exam, why do they take the english sources back, like what use is it to the exam board, is it scanned in? or is it thrown away but like safely to prevent the source being exposed?

the exam paper isn't released to the website for another year so that schools have an unseen exam to use for mocks so yeah probably the latter
