would u say this is a simile (its from jekyll and hyde) : "with ape-like fury"
i would think that the ape-like bit is a smilie or nah

Yeah, because it's comparing the fury to something else so it's a similie not a metaphor.

I've always remembered similes as something with like or as in the sentence... show's how basic my english language is haha

If you forget the difference in future, this is how I remember the difference:
The rain came down in long knitting needles = metaphor, presenting one thing as if it were something else.
The rain rain felt like long knitting needles = similie, comparative.
