Does University of Cambridge offer research opportunities for undergraduate biology students? If so, are the opportunities limited and competitive?

There are some formalised schemes such as UROP (Sainsbury Laboratory takes part) http://to.eng.cam.ac.uk/teaching/uro..._Students.html and EPLS https://www.exppg.lifesci.cam.ac.uk
However, the most common way of getting a summer studentship is to simply email the head of a group which does the kind of research that you find interesting and ask them whether they have any opportunities. This is very common and with hundreds of labs in Cambridge, finding somewhere should not be too difficult.
