About three weeks. It took about three weeks for them to get round to making me an offer.

    y=x^x

    lny=xlnx

    \frac{1}{y} \times \frac{dy}{dx}=lnx+1

    \frac{dy}{dx}=x^{x}(lnx+1)

Thats really mean to ask as it is C4 stuff.

I'm pretty sure you're guaranteed an offer if you turn up.
P.S. I got asked about complex numbers and how to prove something really complex.
I had to prove that all \sqrt6 is irrational.
Then I had to prove that you add the argument and times the length when multiplying two complex numbers.
    I hope so.

i dont that i could have proved \sqrt6 is irrational. I wouldnt really know how to start, or with the second bit.....did you manage to do so?

glad i didnt get those, i think they should warn you they are going to ask you things, people kept telling me they wouldnt

i was so unprepared i panicked ah well, 3 weeks, fun wait....:p:

I was actually joking. I just talked about complex numbers and that was it.

i was so unprepared i panicked
The person showing us around said she panicked and forgot how to do C2 stuff.

nothing too bad actually althought we havent done that in C4 yet. i can do it all until the bit which i dont understand of that why there is a 1/y multiplied by the dy/dx on the left.. i get the left side fine.

It basically when you differentiate y, you get dy/dx.

Now to differentiate lny you need to use the product rule, which gives
(1/y)(dy/dx). Alternatively if you had xy, you would use the chain rule to get
    y+(dy/dx).

Proof by contradiction, assume sqrt(6) can be written as a/b where a,b are integers and gcd(a,b)=1, then prove this assumption wrong.

yea i spoke to my maths teacher about that one and i can prove it fine now, cheers mate. i wonder if there is any other proof methods i would need for the interview?!? if anyone else is going to the interview on the 11th december let me know by pm or something. good luck to everyone!

dont worry, just got an offer, ABBa, and i seriously messed up on some basic questions

and didn't revise anything (i didn't know questions would be asked)

and generally sat there smiling at the interviewer like a cheshire cat...
ah well, applied for G104, what course you applying for?

Manchester interview is EASY!!!! Mine was last week and he asked me barely any maths, more about chemistry actually! And then he told me his specialist area was like an advanced version of decision maths (which I hate, but pretended to enjoy lol) so I had to drag up memories of linear programming and simplex that I had tried to bury. Other than that, just a chat about me playing guitar, and piano and basketball.

Then I got an offer today so everything worked out!

haha, yeh i would like to go to a city i think, would be nice, see where your coming from with manchester too, i just dunno if its a little too close to home, not necessarily a bad thing though

i think nottingham or manc may be my firm,
nottingham is an international year abroad course, and edinburgh i really liked, however manchester also offers a year abroad...

basically its between those three :woo:

you must have been at the same interveiw date as i was, your interviewer sounds better though
mine just kindof sat there and asked like 3 questions and then....nothing...
he asked why i wanted to do maths, my favourite part, and then repeated the odd phrase from my personal statement, tried to elaborate, he then smiled and went back to reading it haha
i didnt really know what to say so i just sat there smiling....

you planning on going there then?

have you got msn btw? im at bording school in Oxford at the moment so i cant use it but im going back down to london in like 2 days time for the holidays...:woo:

actually, im sure your pretty awesome at maths but my worry is that i might struggle a bit, i hope not but im told that its a seriously hard step up from A levels even though im doing fine so far in maths A level. :p:

wheres home for you? you said near manchester or something?!?
