I used Spigen Tough Armor case, it's really strong, shockproof and long lasting.. I have been using it for two years and I am still very satisfied with it. This is just a preference and I don't know about leather or space for credit cards as I mostly use Apple Pay 
The other option is Bellroy case which is compact without a flap and is leather with one slot for card. It sounds like a good option out there however it is expensive.I don't think it would be shockproof though. In this case, a better option would be to go for a flap one.
