Should I ask?

So I went away for 2 months and the guy I’m seeing ( not in a relationship with) I normally see every weekend. So when I came back he asked to see me and I saw him but this weekend he didn’t ask? I called him and asked if he’s seeing me this week and he said he has to drop his aunt to a birthday party as she flew to UK for the birthday party.
Which don’t make sense because I normally stay over his house the whole weekend.
I said should I make other plans then he said yeah and he’ll let me know if he can pick me up afterwards if I’m free.
I didn’t make other plans. Today’s the day it’s 10pm and he hasn’t called should I call and ask or am I begging it to much. I don’t like asking to meet or feeling like a beg.
