Could anyone studying Spanish at Oxford let me know some things about what its like? First off what sort of things did you write in your personal statement? What score did you get in the MLAT and did that effect your getting in much (also how did you study for MLAT)? Also what sort of stuff happens at the interview (or any MFL interview)??
How difficult is the level of language in the first year/in general?
Any answers would be appreciated!!!!

Personal statement is not important.
The mean score for the Spanish MLAT was 6.7, the median 6.8. Maximum is 10, one presumes.
(Source: https://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/undergra...ferred%20entry.)
Obviously it affects your chances of getting in (otherwise they wouldn't do it), though the department are vague about how they use the score.
The more you study for the MLAT, the better you'll do. Like any exam.
The interview depends on language, college and interviewer. Expect to read a literary passage and discuss. A small part of the interview will be in the target language. Maybe some grammar/general discussion of literature.
Hard to say what the level of language is without a frame of reference. Suffice to say that you won't be accepted if they didn't think you could cope.
