I called and I'm position no. 5 out of 15 for genetics. (The number of jobs for genetics are 17). What was the outcome for u last year? What number were ?

    Posted from TSR Mobile
I was 4th reserve for cardiac and I think 3rd reserve for vascular. Nobody dropped out of either so I applied again this year, didn't even get an interview for cardiac even though I now have more experience. Had interview for vascular but still not heard outcome. I know many people got jobs from being on reserve last year, i think I was just unlucky with the specialism! So keep your fingers crossed but maybe start thinking of other options incase? You did so well to get 5th reserve (I know that's no consolation as people kept telling me that last year!).

I can't believe you were 4th and 3rd and didn't get it.. This means I have no hope.. The people you know that got a job from reserve list what number were they? And which specialism? And did they find out soon or in August? I really wish you all the best for the vascular interview results ! U deserve it!

I'm 3rd reserve on the GI urodynamics, but there are only 5 places anyway so there is pretty much no chance of me getting offered a place. The guy on the phone said to me that if they do offer a place they do tend to move down the reserve list quite quickly because people above you may not always be flexible with location, so you never know... To know I missed out by just 3 places though is horrible!!

No!!! I messaged them asking when we'd hear and they said they don't know as they're trying to resolve a query. Really annoying considering they said last Thursday we'd hopefully hear within 48 hours. The could at least tell people if they aren't successful and put the majority out of their misery! Sorry for the rant, I'm going crazy haha.

We're big on radiotherapy, with the majority of both years going that way, mainly because we've got a very big radiotherapy centre.

If you're not keen then they're open to the option of radiation safety or ionising imaging (specifically nuclear medicine). Non-ionising will be difficult.
As mentioned above, most of us are encouraged to go for Radiotherapy, with a very big department.

They're OK with Ionising Imaging as mentioned, but only 1 or 2 people would be able to take this option each year, since it's a pretty small department, with only 5, busy, physicists.

I think it'd be difficult to do radiation safety as a lot of it is covered by an external contractor at the Royal, so would be difficult getting things signed off (this needs to be appropriately qualified done by NHS staff).

I just got an mail from STP Bioinformatics team.

''you are on our Reserve List and this means that as and when candidates drop out of the interview process you will be contacted to take their place. ''

What are the chances that people may drop put from interview stage? Has anyone been in this kind of situation before in this thread?

Should I be positive about this whole thing?

Hi, you should find out when the interview date is and still go, normally people who are on reserve do not bother, somone may drop out and they will be calling people from the reserve list. But you have to be within one hour of the interview centre.

    Hi Jason,

My circumstances changed after I applied for the position which meant I now need to take a lot of time off from September until March so I had to pull out. With any luck you will be the first on the reserve list and get my spot. Good luck!!!

I'm a reserve for bioinformatics... Thinking I might ask how far down the list I am and decide if its worth going up there or not on Thursday... really want this! Finishing my masters in genetics now, can't think of anything I want to do more!

Interview for Bioinformatics but get my degree results tomorrow...expecting a 2:2 so if I get a 2:2 I'll phone them to see if it's worth going if I'll be rejected anyway. Birmingham's quite far (and expensive!) from Durham and I have another interview there on Monday...
