they dont have to give us a weeks notice (but i hope they do!!) Medical physics are the first to be interviewed so they might not be able to give us a weeks notice - they gave us the interview dates so they can get away with possible short notice.
Aw I really hope they give us at least a week’s notice, surely its common courtesy lol. I’m from Scotland so it will be a bit of a nightmare to organise accommodation and transport at less than a week’s notice. I’m obsessing over email/post checking also. Let me know if you hear anything, where else have you applied to?

Also do you know where the Newcastle interview is held? I emailed them but they have not replied yet, its just so I can get accommodation sorted

I now have the address for Newcastle. I got so excited when I seen "invite letter" in the title of the email thinking it was from another one then realised it was Newcastle haha

I thought the same! Bit scared about the presentation

I applied to Leeds, Sheffield, Hull and Manchester. What about you? Do you have a preference of England or Scotland?

I think they shoudl give a weeks notice really it's just for my current job in the nhs i didn't get a weeks notice and it was a hassle cos it was during my exam period
Yeh I am a bit gutted there is a presentation since I have so much work on the now but I had guessed there might be one.

I applied to Manchester, Oxford, Reading and Tooting. Personally I would prefer Scotland but it mainly depends on where my boyfriend gets a job he does RF engineering and so most of the jobs for him are down south.

sbarron, did you phone her again to confirm the interview? Im unsure if I have to since I only spoke to her a few days ago on the phone and then today by email seems a bit of a waste of her time

I will phone tomorrow but does seem pointless.
I work in London but want to move back to the North.

I was thinking what would I do if i had an interview and job offer for the other training before the Newcastle interview - strange they chose to be separate

What do you work as just now? I really don't know what I'd do if I got offered one before hearing from another, I was also thinking that guess I will just have to wait until the time to see. It is very strange Newcastle is seperate makes it a bit annoying, I have applied to Scotland too so I now have to learn about 3 seperate training schemes haha why cant they all just be the same!

I'm a dosimetrist (radiotherapy technologist). I was thinking maybe i was being a bit too optimistic but yes i was thinking what would i do if I was offered a place before i heard from the other - worried Newcastle might be a lot quicker than the other training (as they were with interview invites) and not actually sure where I'd prefer to be as I haven't seen Newcastle hospital.
    Congrats by the way,
Are you guys talking about a post that was not included in the new STP scheme? Because if not, does that mean everyone who is shortlisted will have to do a presentation? Also when you hear from the STP ones, don't forget to tell us how the interviews go!!

Ah right I might go for a dosimetrist post if I dont get in anywhere. I have been doing a project in radiotherapy with the NHS and have been told if I dont get in they will try to find me a job either as a dosimetrist or in treatment planning .
Newcastle is suppose to be really good but yeh I havent seen it either and they were really quick with invites, makes me wonder if they just didnt have very many applicants but who knows

Oooh a project in radiotherapy? So is your degree medical physics?

I applied and didn't get on the scheme last year and was told to find a dosimetrist job to get relevant experience. Dosimetrist are usually just in treatment planning and mould room but i am lucky that i do QA of all the radiotherapy systems too- lucky as it's good experience but also cos i really like QA.

Newcastle might have got less applicants as people may have not realised you could apply to them in addition to the other 4. Or they might have just been really quick as they didnt have to stick to the strict rules of the STP selection process.
My degree is Biophysics and the project was for my 5th year project but its really been invaluable and I have totally loved it. I had to do some QA for it too but I dont like QA much haha. Yeh I plan to do what you have done if I dont get in and apply again next year. You should have a really good chance this year having that experience

Any idea if the interviews for the other centres will just be like one assessment centre as a lot are on the same days or do you think they will make people go through the same process several times if they get more than one interview.

They are trying to sort the STP interviews so that you only go to 1 interview day. That will work for me as I applied to just radiotherapy or 'decide in 2nd year' places which are on the same day - but some people may have to attend more than 1 day if they have applied for say imaging and radiotherapy as the interviews are on different days - did you chose radiotherapy places?
At the assessment centre you might not even get interviewed by the places that shortlist you! That seems to be the only way they could work it to fit people in.

I think my experience helped me write the additional info bit based on the person spec but not sure about at the interviews - guess it depends what they ask us!!
I'd prefer radiotherapy or to decide in 2nd year but I dont really understand the whole process. I maybe should have emailed them all but the job adverts for all mine state

"Applications for this fixed term training post are invited from highly motivated graduates wishing to qualify as a healthcare scientist in Medical Physics specialising in either Radiotherapy Physics, Imaging (ionising/non-ionising) or Radiation Safety."

but then for example Oxford on the timetable says it only has one place in radiation safety I was assuming the job advert was correct though as it seems silly saying that in your advert if its not true

and I am assuming that they shortlist you for the job they want you to take I don’t understand that either as for example Manchester has jobs in all 3 areas but it didn’t ask you to specify what area you wanted or did I miss a bit of my application please tell me I didnt! haha

Hi all, I’ve been reading this thread for quite some time now and thought I should probably contribute. I have applied for Biochemistry posts (Manchester, Leicester and Nottingham) and genetics in Leeds. I know they said if you haven’t heard anything by 4th April then consider your application unsuccessful, but for those who have applied to genetics at Leeds, they are having a visit for the shortlisted candidates, of which there will be ten, THIS Thursday, hence I would presume if you don’t get an invite email today then it’s a no… Out of interest, any one applied to Genetics at Leeds?????

I've applied for the Genetics post at Leeds too. When did you hear about the visit? I'm hoping this has been pushed back..mind you they did close the vacancy early.....oh well.

I emailed Leeds directly last week to arrange an informal visit but she said they would be having one for shorlisted candidates only on Thursday the 24th and I think they will stick to this. I would expect them to let people know today, tomorrow at the very latest. I wish someone would post if they have an invite, but its unllikely those lucky few are members of this site......only 24hours to wait anyway, lol!!!

I think Oxford is radiation safety cos on the nhs careers website there was a list of the jobs available and it says radiation safety.

The bit you quoted was a generic thing they were told to include but were meant to edit - seems there was a lot of confusion with the new way of recruiting and not many edited but i went by what the hospitals said - if i'm right about that reading and oxford are radiation safety so you might have more than 1 interview day if you get shortlisted for more than 1.

Not sure what manchester will do as they put them as the same advert
How are we suppose to understand the process if they cant understand it themselves! I have that week off uni anyway so wouldnt be the end of the world. I had guessed that was the generic thing to include but each of them wrote it slightly different so it didnt look like it had just been copied from a sheet. Guess we will just have to wait n see about Manchester.

Do you all think it's a good idea to prepare now anyway, just in case they inform us too close to the interview?

no, its not worth preparing now! Your chances of getting shortlisted are 15:1 anyway and it would only take 3-4 days to prepare anyway. Of course reading some background material on the technical side of the job is always a good idea if you have some spair time. I would expect invites to be coming out this Friday given what other people have posted on the site, indeed some will probably be going out today ie Leeds genetics.

keep checking this thread, I'm sure it will crash when offers come through with all the lucky people posting their joy lol!!!
