Grammar school & Resources - verbal , non verbal , maths

Hi , Can Someone pls explain , For admissions to Year 10 in all grammar schools in our area (Slough / Buckinghamshire) they say are oversubscribed, you may give an entrance - but that too for a waiting list . Do we really get admission to them , if we score well & clear the entrance in these council areas into Year 10?

It is possible but not highly likely.
Popular grammar schools in the area always have more students that want to attend them than they have places available. The numbers of students who transfer to them outside of normal entry years is always small.
You should widen your search to find a well rated secondary school in the same area.
On completion of GCSE, it would be possible to apply again to a grammar school for A levels if that is the best option for your child.

thanks for your response . In this scenario
1. do you also suggest us to look out for other possible councils in nearby areas in order to get a Grammar.
2. would the secondary schools be fine instead of a Grammar for year 10 and year 11.
3. also, kindly suggest some free resources, for verbal and non verbal practice , for year 10 admission prospective

It's complicated
1. Not every local authority has grammar schools. It's a local and usually political decision.
2. If other councils nearby have grammar schools you would face the same competitive challenge in finding a place.
3. School allocation usually gives priority based on how close you live to the school.
4. Secondary schools can and do provide excellent teaching to their year 10 and 11 students but inevitably some schools are better than others. @Muttley79 might be able to offer some general advice on how to choose a good secondary school.
5, I'm sorry but I don't have any resources to suggest for year 10 grammar school entry tests.

Have you checked the council websites?
Buckinghamshire: https://www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/schools-index/school-admissions/
As far as I can tell each school seems to have it's own approach to Year 10 entry. You'd need to be in catchment probably as you'll neeed to appeal if they are full {you can see which schools have current Year 9 vacancies here: https://www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/schools-index/school-admissions/school-admissions-guides-policies-and-statistics/list-of-school-vacancies/

Slough: https://www.slough.gov.uk/school-admissions

Why do you want a GS place anyway? There are some excellent comprehensives nearby -

It's late to get the options you want anyway ... GCSEs choices will have been allocated earlier. Some schools move pupils up a year in June.

I can help search for a good school - put location into: https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/

Select Secondary - you can see Ofsted and 2019 results. Drill down to see how well able students do.

thanks for sharing these useful links. I checked these. e.g for buckinghamshire, it gives availability in a GS in year 10 and in certain schools, upon emailing them they say they don't have seats. how will it work out .

Slough doesn't maintain any table w.r.t availability of seats per School?

Publishing data on vacancies in schools is not the highest priority so you may only get accurate, up to date information when you actually contact them to ask. All you can do is use the resources shared to identify potential schools and go from there. Until you have an address in UK I don't think you can formally request a place and only then will the current vacancy situation be clear.

Your child is in Year 9 now so you need to look at that year. You need an address first anyway ... all are on half-term so I don't know how you got a reply.

The places are updated regularly and you'd need to sit a test [not VR it will be a curriculum test]. You'll probably have to appeal.

What's wrong with a comp?
