Sports Clubs Costs?

Hi,

I'm planning to study Sports and Exercise Science, and currently I'm deciding between Loughborough and Bath as firm and insurance. I've been looking at the sports clubs for both as I'd like to get involved in loads of sports at uni, but am a bit confused because of pricing differences.

On the Bath Student Union page (https://www.thesubath.com/sport/join/), all of the sports clubs membership costs are listed at £10 - does this cover any sessions that I'd like to go to for the semester/year or is that just a base cost and then I play extra for sessions that I go to? I just wanted to check as on the Loughborough page (https://lsu.co.uk/athleticunion/clubs), costs for some clubs go over £100 (!) so I wasn't sure if there would be extra costs at Bath to give a similar total.

Thanks in advance (and sorry for the long question!)

Hi, there is a £30 SU sport membership each year, then £10 membership for each sport, and then some money for BUCS (if you're doing any) and maybe a few other things.

In my (rather limited) experience:
Athletics paid £10 for membership, which covers training, and then to compete in any BUCS competitions you pay a £67 BUCS athletics tournament fee (only once per year) and then a bit of money for hotels, kit, any other races that cost money to enter, etc.
Rugby paid £10 for membership, which covers training, and again there is a £70 BUCS league fee covers transport etc.

Afraid that's all I really know; I think for mountaineering you have to pay some money for any trips, or climbing at Bristol, you do, so it does depend on the sport. If you "search" the specific sport on the SU website https://www.thesubath.com you might be able to find some more info

Which sports are you interested in?

P.S. I was deciding between Bath and Loughborough for my firm and insurance, I visited both (just having a nosey round the town/city and campus) which I found REALLY helped my decision. Would really recommend visiting (if you haven't already)

Hi,

Thank you for your question. For the 2021/22 academic year, there was a £30 cost for a base SU Sport Membership and then an additional £10 cost for each sports club joined. It is unlikely there will be many session specific charges beyond this, but different sports can operate differently.

You can see what the SU Sport Membership covers here: https://www.thesubath.com/sport/costofsport/

If you are a BUCS participant, there is a £70 League fee, but this does include things such as match day transport.

Additional costs across sports clubs can include things like kit, match fees, trips etc. But they are often subsidised by the SU/Sports Club budgets, and the sports offering at Bath offers great value for money for the experience you will get.

Hope this helps, and please do ask if you have any other questions.
