GCSE Chemistry Topic 7 Carboxylic Acids

If a compound containing a carboxylic acid function group is reacted with a metal, will there be effervescence in the reaction?
i would assume so since a metal and and acid would produce metal salt and hydrogen
but i think it would be a rather slow reaction since carboxylic acid is a weak acid

thanks  how would you name the salt produced in the reaction? e.g. if the carboxylic acid was ethanoic acid?
