I need some advice on which degree would be suitable for going into Primary Teaching. I work full time and would like to study for a degree through the open uni before going on to do a PGCSE, I am just having trouble deciding which one. I am interested in studying Psychology, however I am not sure if this would be appropriate as it is not part of the national curriculum. Would this be a problem? Other options I have considered are ICT, History or English. The 2 latter subjects I am not as keen on but would do them if necessary. Any advice appreciated.

Psychology will enable you to get on to a PGCE primary, I know several people who have. Obviously a NC subject would give you some advantage. Also an education would be a possibility.
or what about something like this at lancaster psychology in education (http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fass/edres/st...estructure.htm) if you have AAB predictions.

or something like this at Durham http://www.dur.ac.uk/education/under...yrequirements/ Joint in education and Psychology.

SO you would get your psychology interest and also make it applicable to education allowing you to progress to PGCE

Sometimes the skills you learn in your subjects chosen will help you in an application even if the subject itself may not be relevant to a PGCE or education. Whatever you do, don't do a subject just for the sake of it - if you're a good candidate for a PGCE you'll be successful
