pisstake that there is no globalisation advanced info, they need to shoot whoever decided the 20 mark rule
not looking forward to this exam :frown: they've been pretty nice with the last two exams but I desperately hope they stay nice for this paper bcos our teachings for most of crime and deviance has been a little off :s-smilie:
I honestly need to completely go over everything for paper 3 before next monday

I think right now, I'm more worried for crime than I am globalisation (as there isn't a huge globalisation q like there is for crime and deviance)
no literally, crime and deviance is really hard, especially because the 10 marker could be on absolutely anything and you have to give three reasons :/ the 20 marker is also hard bc u have to do 3 points outline 3 points evaluate in under 20 minutes, and then the 40 marker which could be on anything. hopefully its on interactionist or whatever

doesn't the guidance for the 40 marker say social class/gender/ethnicity and not theories?
ngl im also annoyed that it now says offending and victimisation :frown: like seriously??

highly doubt it - patterns of crime refer to both offending and victimisation.
E.g. Evaluate the view that the working class commit the majority of crime in society [40] (offending question). You can still evaluate by using evidence of how they are mostly victims to crime too.
(edited 1 year ago)
How was the exam?
Using Source A, explain how young people use digital forms of communication to become empowered in society [9]
Using Source B, assess the view of how a global village can have negative effects on society [10]
Assess the view that digital forms of communication have positive effects on the elderly [16]
in what ways are self-reports useful to measure crime[10]
outline and evaluate the view that traditional forms of socialisation is the reason why men offend [20]
assess the sociological theories that the law discriminates against the working class [40]

here were the questions, i found the exam pretty decent tbh
I liked the globalisation section ngl
the 10 marker for crime was nice
I did not expect them to repeat marxism and class for the 40 marker so i nearly forgot the whole essay
the 20 marker was meh
overall i think it was decent (they could have deffo been worse)

the 40 marker wasnt just on marxism, you could've talked about neo-marxist (radicals) and interactionists as they also are the law discriminates the working class through labelling

yeah thats true - but I kind of read it as more of a marxist question if that makes sense!
yeah so did i at first so it really threw me off, to evaluate i did
functionalism- police assert social control to maintain value consensus
femininism- police and law discriminate women more than men e.g. double deviance
new right- argue the underclass are poorly socialised and is why they turn to crime, they agree with the typical criminal
right realist- argue that class experience crime due to societal explanations e.g. deprivation, marginalisation instead of police discriminating

ah so for me my first point was Chambliss and I eval'd w Durkheim (value consensus and functional crime)
then I think I used Bonger (crime is due to economic deprivation caused by capitalism) which i critiqued with Winlow (wc men doing crime to prove masc which was under threat due to lack of industrial and masc jobs)
I think my next point was Box (RC manip crime to keep wc below them) (but I can't remember who I used to critique them - maybe wilson and Kelling where the law doesn't discrim it tries to prevent further crime - broken window theory)
I think my last point was on Miller (focal concerns of wc boys unfairly criminalised as they do not fit UC values) and I think I eval'd w Murray (its bcos of their poor socialisation and if they were socialised properly there would not be a diff in values and perceived discrim)

tbh I totally forgot the essay me and my friends planned yesterday but I think this one still works ok!
