Working as an Xmas Temp at Next

Hiya,

Ive got a christmas job at Next and start the first week of December. I had my induction on Saturday, which was just signing forms and watching health and safety videos. They then basically said bye see you on your first shift, but does that mean im ment to just turn up and know what to do?? This will be my first job so im not automatically going to know what to do and how everything works. Has anyone worked there as an xmas temp - do they train you?? Any other tips for me?

Thanks! xxx

yeh they'll most likely train you when you're there. if anything, ask someone what you should be doing. simple really.

What's the likelihood of getting a Next Interview if I don't tick the box "Experience of Next Sales previously". I think I'll have no chance, as that's the only thing on the application form that would most probably decide whether they choose you for interview or not?

Also, the thing about the 4 days you must be available to work, is that just to make sure that you WILL work on those days, or are they the only days you'll be working? (stupid question probably, but I want to make sure, I would not work for just 4 days) :smile:

(Apologies for thread hijack, didn't think the small question above would justify a new thread)

Hiya,

I didn't tick the box, I then got an interview and told them that i had no experience whatsoever (eg this would be my first job), which didn't seem to matter as she offered me the job on the spot! (and some of the other temps had no experience either). They're more worried about how flexible you are with working hours and availability over xmas, not how much experience you have.

The four days are days that you must be able to work. Your contract is likely to be that you work from the end of November to the 2nd week of January, not just those 4 days.

Good luck! xx

Any ideas what the hourly pay rate is? :smile:

Ps: I'm applying for a LONDON store, so I can imagine they get loads of applications! I hope I'm not to late, I'm sending them off tomorrow morning (applying to two seperate stores)

Thankies :biggrin::biggrin:

Im getting paid as a temp (aged 16) £4.93, and im not in London. Then on Sundays you get your normal wage + 10%.

Thanks :smile:

I wonder if a London store is more. £5 an hour would be better than nothing, but I'm just greedy and would pay the for an extra hour in bed... No harm in trying I guess :biggrin:

Me = lazy:yep:

ditto this!

I think the little bit where it says "please add details to further help your application", you need to be really careful and powerful with what you say...

Like you could come across as too good, and they think you are lying and have nothing else to go on (grades etc) Or you could not be good enough based on what you write, and still nothing to go on...

Good Luck :biggrin: :smile:

I have my interview Next Friday!

Its just a group one, so I think it will be about interaction with people.

at mine they just asked like wen have i delt with a bad customer and wen have gone beyond the call of duty those kinda types of questions although if its a group one they wont ask u that it will be just to c how smiley and confiedent u r!

They won't expect you to know what you're doing when you start your first shift, they'll tell you what they want you to do, and more than likely (well depending on what floor you're on!) you'll start with just tidying up or on the fitting rooms, because with it being Christmas and it being busy etc there isn't enough time to train new starters straight away, so be patient!

You'll be glad to know the Christmas songs have started... :p:
