If you can't stop the bleeding after 15 minutes of constant firm pressure, or you can't easily push the edges together to close them with a plaster, then they should be looked at. If they need closing, you'll need to go to a nurse/A&E/walk-in centre within 12 hours.

If you are on here asking how badly you can hurt yourself, I can only assume that you are trying to get attention from loved ones by doing so. You should seriously reconsider that. If there are other problems or you are depressed maybe you should talk them out. I know that it may seem like doing something so drastic as cutting yourself is the only answer, but really that's not the case. It would be very selfish to put people through the pain of you hurting yourself or even worse, so that you can reach out to them. If I am wrong to assume what your intentions are, then forgive me for being wrong, but I would hate for someone to feel the need to do that to themselves.
