Hey my vetting has come back with refused that definately means I failed the vetting but they haven’t said why. Does this mean there’s absolute no hope of me being successful?

Hello.

Sorry to hear about the news about your vetting, with vetting its a minefield. especially with all the news at the moment of police vetting. it dose not always mean you have no hope, Best advice will be contact the vetting team to ask for feedback to see if they can tell you why , Bare in mind due to data protection they MAY not be able to tell you if it involves a family member

Hi everyone. When it takes ages do you reckon that it is a good sign? Thank you!

If vetting is refused but they do not give the reason why. This means that's one of your family members / partner is the reason for the fail. As they will always give you the reason unless it affects someone elses confidentially.

Thanks, every other pre employment check has been completed and passed, just waiting on vetting tbh.

Hi, if you remember, how long did it take for your pre employment checks to be confirmed as passed? Its been a couple of days and my portal still says that i am in the pre employment checks phase but DNA and Substance misuse are still the in lab, how long until people usually see this change?? Thank you!!

It’s the Police. You should expect not to have a life just like other EMS.

Not sure what you mean by this. Fire don't have bad shifts at all, and most of the time they're training. Paramedic shifts vary on the trust, but the critical factor in all this is that all emergency services other than the police have unions and are normal employees. Police don't. Police are Crown Servants, aren't subject to normal employment law and have very little in the way of employment or human rights. The only comparable career which has terms and conditions as bad as police is the Armed Forces.

Different departments within the Met have different shift patterns. Some people work office hours, detectives tend to work a mix of earlies and lates with a shift of nights every few months.

You might be referring to the ERPT shift pattern, which is where most police officers start. In the Met, it's not even that bad, and is generally considered one of the two "standard" shift patterns across the country. It's 6/4 of mostly 9 hour shifts- which is 2 earlies, 2 lates, 2 nights and then 4 days off. Of course you are finishing on a night, so you are actually spending half your first rest day sleeping. The other standard pattern is 4 on / 4 off 12 hour shifts. I think currently Bedfordshire do this one and you're either on days or nights, and you get the little changeover day in the middle.

I don't know anyone who doesn't like 4 on / 4 off, and personally I never had a problem with 6/4. Because you're only doing 2 of each shift as soon as you come off one, you're on the "last" of them and will get a longer break after.
