How lenient is Cardiff University?

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody had any idea how strict Cardiff University is when it comes to meeting the grade requirements? How likely are they to still accept you if you receive one grade lower than your offer (if they’re your firm choice)?

Any information would be appreciated!
The only people who can answer this work for Cardiff admissions team. Ring them up and ask them about your course.

In past years Cardiff university has been quite flexible for most courses and would accept 1 grade down. Unfortunately that is no help as what happened previously might be different this year as nobody knows what effect grade inflation will have. All you can do is wait and hope.

I am also interested in seeing peoples thoughts on leniency from the admissions teams. I did however let them know from an early stage that I had a bad experience with my health impacting my exams, so will be letting you guys know what occurs.

I am required a B in maths but reckon i'll more than likely get a D or an E, which is 2 or more grades below than my offer.

Last year when I was in your position (but a month or so before results day) I had an email from Cardiff saying they'd take me if I achieved one grade lower than their. Whether that was because of Covid or some other factor I'm not sure, but it's definitely worth calling and asking.

What happened two years ago on a different course isn't a reliable guide, (either positively or negatively). Cardiff will only know how lenient they can be when they review the results of all current offer holders. In short, yes, you might still be accepted.

I would definitely agree with some the messages above and contact our admissions team to get a feel for this  It's also worth mentioning that you get different admissions tutors for different subjects, so one person's experience of grade leniency might not translate to students of other degree subjects. The fastest way to contact our admissions team is by calling them.

You can call the Admissions team on +44 (0)29 2087 9999. The advisors are available from Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:00, excluding bank holidays. Though its worth saying, if you are an applicant, ensure you have your application number ready.

You can also email them at the following address, [email protected].

Hope that helps!
