No you don’t, but it will be more likely for you to get an interview or an offer if you do. The most competitive med schools will only accept these grades but many will accept lower grades as long as you get good a levels, UCAT/BMAT, and predicted grades. knows more about this stuff.

According to Manchester University’s entry requirements, you need at least seven 7’s. That’s just one university. So no, you don’t need all 8’s and 9’s.

Hi there.

Thanks for trying to help the OP.

It really depends on which med schools you apply to as they have different emphasis on GCSE grades for their selection criteria e.g. Newcastle has no specific GCSE requirements and instead uses UCAT scores for interview selection. @anonymoussgg it would be wise to avoid GCSE heavy med schools, like Oxford and Cardiff, who would likely select grade 8/9 students for interview.

Do your research before applying i.e. check you meet the med school's entry requirements and apply strategically as you can still get into med school without grade 8/9s.

Hope this makes sense.
Best wishes.

Do you need all 8s and 9s for GCSE in order to do medicine/ dentistry?

Universities hold various minimum GCSE grade requirements for medicine. The most competitive UK schools require 8s and 9s in English, Sciences and Math. Other universities will have minimum entry requirements at 6 but admitted students usually score in the 7-9 range due to the high number of applicants.

Best thing to do is research your chosen universities to see what there entry requirements are for both of these courses you are thinking about doing okay.

Short answer, no. But it depends where you apply.

There is a dedicated thread for GCSE Medicine queries: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/sho....php?t=5678544 - the first post has a list of all UK med schools GCSE entry requirements, (Under 'Academic requirements > Medical School GCSE Requirements').

(Credit to who I am paraphrasing  ).
