French - Self teaching

Hi

I want to teach myself French and wanted to ask if anyone knew of any good books to buy. I'd like something with a CD so I can check my pronunciation. I only know the very basics at the minute so I don't want anything that will intimidate me before I even get started!!

I have had a look on Amazon and this seems ok -

and for pronounciation, try and find a french person somewhere. It might not be easy but it'll be the best way to learn accents and pronounication
essential reprise is excellent for grammar :smile:

i bought a harper collins one with cd once but it wasn't that great:s-smilie:

The Letts GCSE revision guides are good for starting off- it has all the vocabulary, grammar and practices you can do. There's also a CD, for practising listening, but which is good as well for hearing how things are said.
